I had such a great time hosted dinner party for foodbuzz 24x24 last weekend, and I'm glad my guests are enjoyed this appetizer, mango berry on skewers with spicy tamarind palm sugar dip ( Indonesian style dip) sweet, sour and spicy or we call it Rujak or Rojak ( Malaysian and Singaporean spelling )
Basically is fruits salad, you can use any fruits you like the only different is the dipping /sauce is represent of south east Asian country, the dish is very popular in Malaysia and Singapore
As for appetizer that evening I serve this mango berry on brochettes skewers with dip/sauce on the side.
Now is time to me to share diping sauce recipe, the only ingredients is hard to find here in the US is
Greater galangal but you can skip,or substitute with grate lime/lemon zest, I brought greater galangal from my country last time.
After I strained,no chunks of tamarind, it looks smooth. |
Spicy tamarind palm sugar dip(Indonesian dip style) for Rujak/Indonesian fruits salad.
Ingredients :
- 1 cup palm sugar
- 1 cup seedless tamarind soak with 1 cup water
- 2 Thai chili/less or more
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 tsp greater galangal powder/root
- 1/2 tbsp salt
(mix all ingredients into food processor just process until smooth ) you can strain to get smoother dip or serve as it is.
I normally didn't strain it,but this is the first time I serve this dip to my fellow Americans,so I strained to get smooth dipping sauce without chunks of tamarind.

I can't wait to try your dipping sauce!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely presentation of the fruit on a skewer!! Really beautifully done! Tamarind is a popular ingredient in Sri Lanka... but since I grew up here in the States... I'm not as comfortable using as I should. I just need to do it and use it. I love that you made a dipping sauce out of it. Very clever. :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous array of your fruit on the skewers, and the dipping sauce is amazing! Congratulations on the 24x24 on Foodbuzz!
ReplyDeleteThis dip looks perfect to serve with such summery fruits :D

Hah another one of my Asian blended ingredients but sure this is unique because berries are not our kind of fruit. However, I am in for new check out of food and when I can get berries, I mean the good ones with a reasonable price, this will be a recipe I will love to dive in.
ReplyDeleteThe sauce is really what makes these extra special. I will need to seek out some of the ingredients, but I am sure it will be well worth it. Look forward to the rest of the detail to your 24X24 event!
ReplyDeleteThat dip looks absolutely amazing! I heart tamarind!
