Steamed and raw vegetables salad with peanut sauce

This Indonesian steamed vegetables salad called gado-gado, mixed  cooked vegetables topping with homemade spicy peanut sauce can be served as appetizer  or you can add fried tofu, tempeh or sliced hard boiled eggs to serves as a meal.
As optional you can prepare  this salad with thinly slice/chopped raw vegetables with this spicy  peanut sauce.

 Ingredients : estimates
- Purple cabbage/ cabbage
- Green bean
- Carrot
- Potatoes
- eggs ( hard boiled egg )

( Basically you can use any fresh vegetable you like, and I normally not measure vegetables on this meal, just use as much as I need  )

Preparation;
Steam vegetables in steamer or bring water to boil, start with boil egg until cooked, wash any fresh vegetables and cut into bite size, when the eggs is cooked, you can use remaining boiled water and drop all vegetables in it,and cook until tender about 5 minutes or so,

"Tip" for raw vegetables you can replace cabbage with any lettuce you like, mix with cucumber and carrot and red onion.

meanwhile if you don't have peanut sauce made, start to make a peanut sauce, while vegetables is cook.

for peanut sauce :
1 clove garlic
1-2 red Thai chili
juice from a lime or 1 tbsp tamarind juice
1 cup unsalted peanut
1 tsp salt
an half inch  fresh greater galangal /1/2 tsp powder greater galangal ( optional)
1 tbsp cane sugar/brown sugar
1/4 cup hot water
( in the food processor or blender until all the ingredients are grounded/ combine, add  hot water as you need for lightness of the sauce   )

Wow, gado gado is also my fav and in fact I can scoop the sauce and eat it by itself. Nice contrast of colors esp the veges you have used.

Now this is what I call a real salad-love the veggie mix! Also, the sauce is really what makes this fabulous. A great item to have around to bring some delicious flavor to a lot of dishes. Enjoy the weekend!
