- 2 cups white basmati rice
- 3 1/2 cups chicken broth
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 cup chopped yellow onion
- 1-3 inch cinnamon stick
- 2 bay leaves
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- pinch of turmeric
- pinch of salt
Rinse rise in several changes of cold water until water runs clear,drain well
in deep skillet or large pan heat butter on high heat,add onion,saute for about 2-3 minutes
bring basmati rice,chicken broth,bay leaves and cinnamon stick over high heat add cardamom powder
then reduce heat to low and cook,covered until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed about 15 minutes stir frequently ,discard bay leaves and cinnamon stick before you serve.
